I have a low pain tolerance, how can I help make my dental visit pain free?

Even when it is just a check-up to get a dental cleaning, I'm still scared to go and it bothers me when they scrape my teeth and around my gums with those sharp metal tools. What can I do to eliminate any stress or pain? Should I take pain relievers before I go?

My dentist told me to take Aleve before hand to help with any soreness. Also, when your done, if you rinse with salt water, it will help a lot.
Reply:No.. Don't take any meds before going.. explain to the dental hygenist or dentist that you are sensitive to pain and ask for an injection or spray to help ease your pain and discomfort.
Reply:My hubby is just like you. He always requests and gets laughing gas before anything is done to his mouth. You might want to do the same.
Reply:Ask about an anti-anxiety prescription
Reply:It's all about a positive attitude....Most people are nervous because they had a BAD experience some other time....Medication isn't good to be dependent on, Take an ipod or even some Motrin or aleve before it should help...
