I'm entitled to free NHS dental treatment, but can only find private dentists.?

Will private dentists offer concessions for those on low incomes?

I'm entitled to free NHS dental treatment, but can only find private dentists.?
Most practices offer both private and NHS dental services. I found an interesting article regarding this:

I recommend to call several of them and ask if they have both private and NHS services. Also ask for price comparison for those services. It is worth it to shop around.

Reply:yes they will, but try NHS Direct, they should be able to guide you to an NHS dentist. good luck
Reply:snap !!! i have found it to be virtually impossible to find a dentist nthat still does nhs work in my area, i thought that is what we paid national insurance for!!!!!
Reply:ive asked one or two and no they dont!

do you have an NHS dental access centre? they should have one in every town now i believe
Reply:Some private dentists do treat NHS people - phone round and ask - I tried once to ask for discounted treatment as I went to one that only did private and they answer was a no - greedy capatilists! They know when you have toothache you'll pay for the pain to go away! You could always ring up the NHS helpline for a list of NHS dentists in your area! Good Luck x
Reply:It is very difficult to find a dentist who will take on new NHS patients. This is the fault of the government not prioritising dental health. I feel very strongly about this and I'm not even a dentist!! If you keep looking, you will eventually find a good NHS dentist. You could also ask your GP, or phone large teaching hospitals in your area who sometimes offer free treatment (administered by supervised students) Good luck!
Reply:some private dentists will accept nhs patients. You would have to ask them individually.
Reply:most dentists dont want nhs patients and they fill up their quota so they dont have to take on anymore they prefer cash paying customers
Reply:probably not I recon that they are more interested in the money than the patient
Reply:my dentist will only treat children on the national health, it costs me a fortune for the smallest problem even though i am on a low wage, plus a "fine" for not going within one year. my dentist says its not a "fine"... its because he has more to do???
Reply:some private dentists will treat you, but they can only treat so many people at once, thats why its very hard to get a good dentist. as usual it's all abaout money and the goverment. :)
Reply:You are not looking hard enough and moaning instead
Reply:N.H.S dentists are in such short supply nationwide that when a new one opened in the midlands people started queueing to sign up the night before she opened.

There is one dentist in my area, the next nearest N.H.S one is over 30 miles away (I live in a very rural area) and she has a waiting list of around 5 years.

The only option I and my toddler have is the local hospitals dental emergency dept which will only remove teeth and do fillings.

If my son needed a brace it would have to be done privately.

Until the government pay the dentists what they think is a decent amount for N.H.S treatments they will continue to treat private patients only.

Reply:Yes, they can give the NHS Dentist a call or better still go into your local dentist and ask them whether or not they take in NHS Patients, they will always help you out or they will give you a dentist that will give you free NHS Treatment.

Good Luck
